New York City, Aka the Big Apple, is one of the most multi-cultural hodgepodges in the world. One of the most common sayings is “If you can’t find it in the big apple then it simply can’t be found”. If you seek some obscure foods from different parts of the world then you have come to the right place. New York has just about any type of food that you can imagine in your mind. The entire city is a new discovery, every corner you will find something new and interesting.

The gay area of New York is commonly known as Chelsea, the west side of Manhattan. Here you will find a large amount of gay businesses, gay bars, and gay clubs. This area is the kingdom of the fabled Chelsea boy, well-groomed muscle men with bursting t-shirts and skin tight jeans. Well… that is more of a stereotype but if you come to Chelsea the chances are good that you will find gorgeous people that are part of our LGBT community.

Gay owned businesses don’t only reside in Chelsea; there are a plethora of other gay businesses in Manhattan. You can find them everywhere, though some may not be as easy to spot as others. All it takes is an internet connection and a good eye.

If you are looking to see gay history in New York then head over to the Stonewall Inn. The Stonewall Inn is located in the West Village, and remains to be a historical landmark for the gay community. In 1969 a group of gays stood up against a police raid which marked their determination for equality. Nearby the Stonewall Inn, you’ll be able to find the popular lesbian bar, Henrietta Hudson. This is a must-see bar if you’re in the area, truly a center of community get-togethers.

Nightlife in New York City

Holding up to its reputation as the city that never sleeps, it’s no surprise that New York City is home to tons of hot gay bars and nightclubs.

1. Eve Ultra Lounge - Thursday NightsOnly

Staten what? Yup! Staten Island has Eve which has taken the idea of a straight club, turned it gay one day a week and then made it thrive in a place where not one gay bar has succeeded. All the gays and gals and their lesbian friends join the Guido rich crowd. Trans guys, and drag queens galore and clothing pleated, tucked and covered to toe. This place is a gay night at the Roxbury. Cover at the door is steep and so are the drinks but the music is magic and the crowd is a lot of fun. The same crowd is found on Friday nights a couple miles west in Sayreville New Jersey’s Deko bar and lounge.

2. Santos Party House

Want to experience the way NYC clubs use to be? With a cross section of EVERYONE, this club hosts a party once a month on a Sunday called 718 Sessions. The music is real and soulful. Everyone is there to enjoy the positive vibes and dance their asses off. You’ll see a lot of flat backed people leaving!!
Address: 96 Lafayette St.Cross Streets: Chinatown

3. SOB’s

A milestone occurred at this legendary live music (traditionally straight) dance club! I was an attendee at the celebration of a pre-wedding party for a handsome male couple on the club’s salsa night. Great music, great fun and really beautiful to see two men dancing together without it being a big deal among all the other male/female couples. In time this will be the norm.

Restaurants in New York City

New York City is a foodie’s paradise with some of the best chefs, restaurants, and fine dining around. Try out some of these gay friendly restaurants to get you started.

1. Jimmy’s Diner

Like, whoa! This place gets me excited every time I come here. It's a small place and you may have to chill before you can get a table, but the food is great, okay! I have never been disappointed when I've been here. I had “The Big Boy” breakfast and the pancakes and homemade sausage were my favorite from the plate. The service is cool. I like their chill, but get the job done attitude. If you love hitting up a diner to start your rainy Sunday morning, then hop the L train to the Lorimer St. stop. Have a hipster while in the hood.
Address: 577 Union Ave. Brooklyn, New YorkCross Streets: Williamsburg

2. Beso Spanish Restaurant

One of New York’s best kept secrets is that some of the best places to eat in the city are actually outside New York’s concrete jungle. Take the Staten Island Ferry and find yourself in Beso. Beso is definitely worth the trip to Staten Island. The FREE ride is unimaginably New York. You’ll get the most iconic view of New York City. The skyline will light up the night and for a moment you’ll forget about the people around you. Beso is known for satisfying even the most skeptical palates. Start with a couple of tapas. The Bistek Cobrales is delicious. Steak medallions served with melted Cobrales blue cheese. The Fiesta Picardia is made with grilled portabella, tomatoes, onion, basil, and Tetilla cheese dressed with balsamic glaze. For dinner, you’ll fall for the Gambas. Large shrimp sautéed with Serrano ham, diced red onions, garlic, and wine. Samba is roasted chicken breast stuffed with chorizo, roasted garlic, spinach, caramelized onions, and Cobrales cheese served with a sherry wine sauce. You can’t go wrong. Beso will have you coming back for more. And when the weather is just right, there is no place warmer than Beso. I’ll see you there.
Address: 11 Schuyler Street Staten Island, NY 10301Cross Streets: Staten Island

3. Spice Market

As an employee HATED IT! As a patron Loved it. Just after seeing the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art my sister and I had a fabulous lunch. It started with the perfect seats; two in the corner on a beautifully sunny and warm autumn day with the sliding walls open. I took advantage of the Lunch pre-fix figuring I’d have the chance for varied items with deal. I started with the Tuna Ribbons. Extremely cold and vibrantly fresh in citrusy milky broth with multi colored tapioca pearls. A gorgeous presentation. The Crispy Skate Wing was just that without being greasy. And the accompanying sauce an emulsion that floated around the fish sung on the palate with notes of lemongrass, citrus and sweet chili. Completing the meal was the Ovaltine Kulfi. This wasn’t the stuff you remember as a kid. It had been transformed into a caramel-ly bar of heaven. Just enough to be elating and not laden. A perfect lunch for a perfect day!
Address: 403 West 13th St.Cross Streets: Meat Packing District

1. The Box

This place is weird, but amazing. from the outside, nothing to distinguish anything inside but as soon as you're in, things get cray. The box which is by table reservation only is considered a theater and to be blunt an interesting sex show. The two times I have been there we have reserved the top balcony area. Here the private rooms come with stripper poles and bottle service. I've seen people dressed to impress and drunk girls in tutu's and a guy in a chicken suit. The name of the game is excess, no rules, just hedonism. The place makes your inhibitions float away; you'll probably need a shower after. Be warned, this place is booked months in advance so if you're planning a trip to the big apple, get a reservation soon so you can get a bite of the action.

2. Fraunces Tavern

After you get your marriage license at City Hall come by Fraunces Tavern for a drinka and tour the upstairs museum. The place is 250 years old. This is the place where George Washington said good bye to the troops after the revolution and the place is filled with history, charm and fine food.
