In his latest interview with Out magazine, cover boy Colton Haynes shares more about his secret past as a closeted gay man.
Even though the 28-year-old former Teen Wolf actor only came out to the world and his millions of fans a couple of months back, he had actually told his friends and family that he’s gay when he was 14.
Colton shared that he’d known he liked boys since he was in first grade, but when he came out in school, he was met with bullying - so bad that his older brother Clinton had to meet him outside of class to protect him.
He also revealed that he experimented with both sexes during his youth, but it’s the boys that he settled with.
When he moved to Texas and attended the high school there, he had a much better experience with being openly gay.
He was even nominated prom king during his senior year and had brought his then-boyfriend to prom, wearing coordinating tuxes. ‘Mine was neon green,’ he said.
One of his ex-boyfriends was the model he did his now-infamous 2006 photoshoot for XY magazine with.
Netizens have identified the ex-boyfriend as male model Jerreth Ludwig.
According to the interview, the editorial was shot in Texas, with the boys earning a couple of thousand dollars each for modelling.
‘All I remember is, I was so excited to do that photo shoot,’ Colton told editor R. Kurt Osenlund. ‘This was, like, the cover of Vogue for me. I was like, “This is it! I’m going to be in a magazine!” I truly thought it was going to be this serious moment in my career, and I knew it would earn me enough money to get to L.A.’
Colton, then 17, then moved with his beau to Los Angeles for more opportunities, but they split shortly after.
When Colton came out publicly in May via an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, he was actually going through a bitter breakup with a guy whom he’s been together for six years. (Kudos to them keeping it secret for so long.)
Even though the actor wouldn’t reveal any name, he noted that things ended when he discovered the ex was constantly cheating. ‘I had a complete mental breakdown,’ he added.
So, any hope for romance right now for the actor?
He said that he’s been burned by love, he’s been shy and reclusive, and that he’s only been on two dates in two years.
‘I haven’t had sex in-I couldn’t tell you how long,’ Colton shared. ‘I wish had more to tell you, but it just doesn’t happen.’
When asked who’s his ideal man, Colton said that would be a combi of three of his celebrity crushes: John Cena, Idris Elba, and Ryan Reynolds.
‘Someone who just descended from a mountain and said, “I don’t have any friends. Would you like to come live with me?” I’d love that,’ he said.
The actor added that he wants to do the relationship thing right, and he wants kids - six of them.
‘I want to somehow have a happy ending,’ he said. ‘Or a happy beginning.’
